I more meant in searching US online game shops you can already order the pre-release, whereas here you can't.
clerk? are you implying I would get off my fat ass and go to a shop!?
Sorry if my post was a bit confusing. ><

With this option, if you chose not to purchase the retail Factions game, you still would be able to access the preorder items by typing in 'preorder' command.

With Amazon, didn't you have to buy the full game as well?
If not, they took a hit on that, cause I'm sure it costs more than $1 to ship.
I've theorized before this new "pre-release pack" is a direct answer to companies different wants and needs.
Example: EB Games (and I assume Gamestop), sold the Factions pre-order for $5, which was then deductable off the full game price. You were pre-ordering the game. I suppose you could cancel, get your $5 back (or have it as store credit), and keep the pre-order box, that that seems a pretty lame thing to do. I pre-ordered and bought Factions from EB Games cause I had a gift card there, so it made sense for me.
Best Buy sold their pre-order for $10 (which in my impatience, I bought and ate the cost. Silly me ). You could take the reciept in later to get $10 off Faction if you want.
As for Nightfall pre-release, we don't know for sure how each individual store will handle it. In a game chat, Gaile said each store would sell the pre-release at their discretion, either by itself, or give a deal with the Retail version.
But, I agree with CKO, the best thing to do with Nightfall is the same as Factions, find the best deal out there and buyer beware.

Ok Ok all of this thread is good information. But what I really want to know is:
Is it confirmed that there will be a 24hr preview when the game is about to be released? I partook of the Factions preview and had so much fun getting to cavalon before most ppl even got their copy of the game. can anyone quote someone on this topic?

The haven't released any information on early access yet. But they did it for the last two campaigns so I wouldn't be surprised.

i did that, but the price i found was about £44 for the CE of nightfall. but the description and the picture was the pre-order pack. does this mean that the CE is now the pre order pack? cause i don't think many people will pay £44 for a game they can play for 10 hours and that doesnt include the real game.

its not a good grace from anet, in fact youre all payin for the slot on the preorder, since all the other preorder were refundable, so if you get the preorder you pay 9.95 less for full game, now the preorder is not refundable, witch is said since ill pay ten bucks more for a slot i dont need anymore, i bought 3 more for my acount, why do they change this ?
just makes me regret the slots o bought before lol
as anet makes more money kinda looks more and more like a regular like blizzard, lol.

Hey, can't be free forever, right?
Please be aware that there is the Pre-order (where you put money down for a reserve copy of the game) and the pre-sell (which is a preview copy, trial key, and extra character slot). Money for the pre-sell will go to the the pre-sell only (mainly for the character slot). Money for the pre-order will go towards the cost of the game.

So far as i can tell, there is NO news on whether or not the CE will have ANY additional in game content like the other chapters had for their CE's. If this is the case i will be purchasing the basic Nightfall game with the Bonus Pack. This combo is not only cheaper then the CE, but i also get additional in game content: a third character slot, trial key for a friend and 2 in-game items. As far as other things, you can see you get tons of other stuff too!
From what is listed, all i get with the CE are non-in-game...JUNK!! Skill pins, who cares? Soundtrack CD, umm, just play the game? Behind the Scenes: Making of the Game DVD, i'd rather play the game, k thx. Map, poster, art book, umm pretty much the same as offered with the Bonus Pack. So tell me again, why the CRAP would i wanna spend more money on the CE then the Game + Bonus Pack combo?!?!?!?! If they don't release news real soon about the CE in-game features, then they will lose a LOT of potential pre-order CE buyers, since they offer little/pitiful incentive. YA, so ill be pre-ording the Combo pack unless i hear other things...
So whatcha all gonna be doing? Cheers!
(EDIT:: I posted this also in the CE thread rather then create a whole new thread for my rant. LoL)

Whether you can 'see' it or not, there invariably will be some that will not purchase NightFall for one reason or another. Open yourself to all scenarios.
One reason someone may want that 'pre-release' pack is for the special weapons, which I had already stated in the post I had made. People can change their minds on their experience with a trial, or through a PvE weekend event. Thus, we have the matter of the unused bonus key slot leaving the consumer in a tight predicament.

No - for either the pre-order box for Factions or as currently, the 'pre-release' box for NightFall, you are not obligated to purchase the retail game. In fact, I believe if you bought the 'pre' for both GW games at any retailer, you are not obligated to buy the full retail game.

You are correct. It might be lame, but I admit I have done such a thing before, but with a different game. [Harvest Moon -> Cow stuffed animal]
The main point I am trying to get across is that they have limited our consumer options a bit in favor for them selling NightFall retail units. If we EVER decide from the time now to the NightFall release date that we will not buy the game, from disappointment to monetary reasons, and you merged the bonus key, you are screwed unless you buy that retail game. It is a $4 investment that will not return (you lose, ANET/NCS has your $$$) unless you also purchase the retail copy. It would seem that we are getting a bonus slot at a nice half-off price, but they are willing to provide us this slot in order to sell a retail unit (which will return more profit).
This of course will not apply to ignorant fanboys that will purchase every chapter of GW regardless of gross errors, low quality content, broken gameplay mechanics, etc.
Then there are also those that PvP and feel they need every chapter to keep up on the skills or new professions. This reasoning I completely understand.
I on the other hand particularly enjoy keeping a close eye on how I spend my money, and the options that are available to me. I make it a point to inform others as well, since having more choices empowers the consumer, the paramount force all consumers have.

And I agree with you. I'm sure when the pre-release is released, someone will find a great deal out there for it, and most of us will pounce on it.
Just to be clear, I have not heard officially that the money we put down for the pre-release will not count towards the Purchase price, or that the pre-release is non-refundable at all stores.
At this point in time, it appears each individual retailer can make that decision.
Oh, and thanks VGameAddict7, I'll check Target for Nightfall deals.

i guess this question/suggestion belongs in this thread. i ask it in the hope that gaile will come along and see it, perhaps enlighten me, and take the suggestion to higher authority ;P
hailing from australia, i was unable to get a preorder key for factions. im sure anet know about the whole australia hubbub.. it was pretty disorganised and sloppy, the underlying reasons for which i can understand.
my question/suggestion is this: is there any way for the ncsoft gw store to 'take preorders' as it were? for example, if i bought nightfall through the ingame store from sept 15th onward (if it is up as early as then), would the interface back there at HQ be able to
A) send me the prerelease keys for the extra character slot and the preorder items immediately, and
B) be able to send me a nightfall access key come release (or a day before, if there is a 'headstart')
being able to preorder via the store would be a great help for international players who simply cant get hold of a preorder package any other way. perhaps if preorders are impossible to take via the store, the prerelease pack could be bundled with orders of nightfall before release. just a few thoughts ;P

The GW store is basically just like the PlayNC store, all you get are the codes, nothing else. You can already buy a slot without having to wait for Nightfall. I'm sure they will offer Nightfall codes once the game is released. Maybe they will offer prerelease codes on the 15th of sept, wait and see.
Check out this thread about Australia and pre-orders and a reply from one of the Anet reps

I don't know about you, but I didn't have to pay any extra for the Factions Pre-order pack... if you really spent $5 extra the store you went to ripped you off. I went to Game Stop, by the way.

Really? Couple of questions to clarify.
Did you get the pre-order for Factions when it came out, or with the actual game?
Did you have to reserve a copy of Factions, or did you literally just walk in the store, pick up the pre-order pack, and walk out?
